The Caminito del Rey now has it’s corporate image ready for the scheduled opening in early 2015. The logo was approved recently  and will be used on all the official promotional material for the area.

The logo has the approval of the Council of Malaga and the mayors of Alora, Ardales, Antequera and Abdalajís which are the towns closest and most affected by the Camino restoration project

This element was decisive for choosing this design, which should be representative of municipalities by running (Alora and Ardales) as well as the neighboring towns (Antequera and Valle de Abdalajís).

The new logo was chosen because it simplifies and combines  the three essential elements of the  Caminito del Rey. These elements being its  landscape , the spectacular suspension bridge, and the iconic element of the crown which of course gave the footpath it’s name.

It’s just been announced that the steel cable running the length of the Caminito de Rey will be left in place once the walkway is re-opened. Right now it’s being used as a security measure for the people working on the renovation. The decision to keep the cable was made in order to give an option for people who aren’t so sure of their head for heights to feel a bit safer. Wearing a harness and attaching on to the cable will at least stop a person from leaning over the barrier and falling into the river below 🙂

Other news, it seems that the entry price for the Caminito del Rey will be set at 6 euros per person but as yet this is still a rumor… Getting information from the authorities here is very difficult!

When the Camino del Rey opens in January or February 2015, I think it will be fair to say that the whole area will be inundated by people wanting to see and walk the newly renovated kings pathway. This provokes a few questions, how on earth are the numbers of people walking this path going to be controlled? How much will it cost? How will one get a permission to be able to enter? Right now these questions go mostly unanswered.

Although unofficial, (and as yet without a website) there is an organisation in El Chorro with a facebook page that is taking peoples details in order to create a database to present to the authorities before the path opens. Looking at the comments on this page there are already thousands of people adding their names to the list. If you want to add your name to the list, go to the facebook page and send them a message (of course, you do need a facebook account). In the message put how many people and roughly the date you want to visit. This information will help the guys working over in El Chorro to see what kind of impact the opening will have and how to overcome the access issues.

The rumor is that access for the first 2 months will be free of charge and there will be a limit of 500 people per day to walk the Caminito del Rey which will mean that weekends and bank holidays will be full probably all year long…. My advice, when it finally opens, is to stick to weekdays
